From Press staff reports

Buena Regional High School beat host Middle Township 1-0 on an own goal in the 78th minute Tuesday in a Cape-Atlantic League boys soccer game.

Buena (8-0), ranked No. 11 in The Press' Elite 11, is off to its best start in program history.

The Chiefs' David Silipino hit a corner kick in front. As a Middle Township defender tried to clear it, it went off the side his foot and into the net.

"I think we dominated the possession and scoring chances," Buena coach Robert Seelhorst said Tuesday. "Give Middle credit. They fought hard in the game. We ended up getting lucky with one of them going off (a defender), but I think the outcome is deserving because we dominated the majority of the play. When you keep taking chances, something lucky is going to happen."

Buena goalie Tyler Callahan made three saves for the shutout. Middle goalies Matt Rixey and Anthony DiCicco combined for 14 saves.

"Our guys are really happy," Seelhorst said. "A lot of them haven't beaten Middle before. It's a stepping stone toward a real good season. Tyler Callahan is having a great season, and my defenders, Brian Adams, Luis Pomales, Nick Gaboda and Ed Warren, really played well today."
