The Legends Classic is a two-day men's college basketball tournament starting Friday at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Each day leading up to the event, The Press will preview one of the Classic's four teams (Massachusetts, Rutgers, Florida and Michigan State).

First game: 8 p.m. Friday vs. No. 2 Michigan State

'09-10 record: 4-0

'08-09 record: 25-11

Coach: Billy Donovan (314-126)

Conference: Southeastern Conference

Season outlook: Florida has just one senior in New Jersey native Dan Werner, however, the youngsters have some serious upside. The Gators are a solid team in a good conference. However, they have enough to stand on their own.

So far this season: The Gators have won their first four games in blowouts. Their first real test will come at the hands of nationally ranked Michigan State.

Players to watch: Freshman Kenny Boynton averages 17.0 points per game, and junior Chandler Parsons averages 13.0 points a game. Sophomore Erving Walker averages 10.8 points and 4.8 assists a game.

Interesting fact: Werner is a Christian Brothers Academy graduate who played in Atlantic City at the Battle by the Bay.

Coming tomorrow: Michigan State

I hope NJ appreciates what a great representative they have in Dan Werner of Florida. He's a great player and leader for UF and has served as an anchor of the basketball program during his time there. Look for a big performance in the Legends Classic from a native son.
