Youth baseball and softball: North Cumberland loses first game in Big League World Series

North Cumberland lost its first game of the Big League World Series in Easley, S.C., 16-4 on Friday to Greenville (S.C.).

Gage Mick went 2-for-3 with a run scored for North Cumberland. Danny Santiago, Darren Fischer and Joey Fogg each scored a run for North Cumberland, which represents the East.

North Cumberland is now 1-1 and will face Ruston, La., today at 2 p.m. in round-robin play.

State Junior League baseball

Hammonton 11, Jersey City 0: Winning pitcher Chris Caprio went seven innings and struck out seven.

Lou Corgliano went 4-for-5 and Shane Guyer went 3-for-3 for Hammonton.

Alex Padavani went 3-for-5 and Andrew Hamilton went 2-for-3. Hammonton will play Wall in Madison today at 7 p.m. in the winners' bracket of the state tournament.

Section 4 10-11 baseball

Linwood 16, West Deptford 4, 4 innings: Jake Graziotto and Tyler Nutile combined to pitch four innings, allowing only five hits.

Linwood scored 12 runs in the fourth, including a grand slam by Graziotto. Linwood plays in Haddonfield tonight at 5 p.m.

Northfield 8, Glassboro 6: Northfield won the Section 4 title and advanced to the state tournament, which starts Saturday, Aug. 7.

Alencia Yeoman was 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run for Northfield. The team combined for 13 hits including the home run. Gigi Matta was the winning pitcher.
