Girls soccer roundup: Jessica Balnis scores twice to lead Buena Regional

Jessica Balnis scored two goals, including the game-winner, as Buena Regional High School edged Lower Cape May Regional 3-2 in a back-and-forth Cape-Atlantic League National Conference girls soccer game Thursday.

Balnis scored less than two minutes into the game to put the Chiefs ahead 1-0. But Lower's Katie Damiana tied it when she drilled a shot from just outside the box.

Frankie Gibson scored in the second half to put Lower up 2-1. Kristen Sloan then tied it for the Chiefs, and Balnis got the winner with 10 minutes remaining.

Melissa Normat, Katie Madamba and Emily Buczek each added an assist for the Spartans.

Gina Long made 22 saves to earn the shutout for the Warriors, who remain winless but earned their first tie of the season.

Wildwood, which lost 7-0 to Salem earlier this season, kept the game scoreless despite missing two of its starting defenders due to injury. Senior captain Loretta Kelly filled in at sweeper to anchor the defense.
