The College of New Jersey men's swimming team beat Rowan 177-122 on Saturday to win its second straight NJAC title. Kevin Cain (Holy Spirit) won the 100-yard backstroke in 54.71 seconds and was third in the 50 freestyle in 22.36. He also was a member of the Lions 200 medley relay, which finished third in 1 minute, 40.34 seconds.
Rowan's Mike Brooks (Holy Spirit) was fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:50.94), fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:14.32) and seventh in the 100 (50.37). Steve Tucker (Sacred Heart) was second in the 100 butterfly (55.29, seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:07.05) and eighth in the 100 freestyle (50.41). Brooks and Tucker were both members of the winning 400 freestyle relay. ... Rowan University's Zach Castelli (Atlantic City) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Diver of the Week after winning the 3-meter dive with 306.10 points. Teammate Mark Balesteri (Egg Harbor Township) was second with 272.45. Balesteri was second in the 1-meter dive and Castelli was third. Billy Cavallo (Cumberland Regional) finished fourth for TCNJ in both dives.
Women's swimming: The TCNJ women also clinched their second straight NJAC championship by defeating Rowan 183-110. Samantha Rottkamp (Cumberland Regional) won the 3-meter dive with 225.40 points, followed by TCNJ's Amanda Obst (Lower Cape May Regional) with 208.80. Obst won the 1-meter dive and Rottkamp was second. Obst was also named NJAC diver of the week. Traci Hoffer (Millville) helped TCNJ win the 200 medley relay (1:51.31), while Stacey Rahter (Mainland Regional) helped Rowan to a second-place finish in the same event (1:57.13). Rahter also won the 200 IM and second in the 100 and 200 breaststroke races. Hoffer won the 50 freestyle in 24.83 seconds and Rowan's Teresa Sterns (Holy Spirit) was fourth. Sterns also placed third in the 100 freestyle and helped the Profs to a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. ... University of West Virginia's Joanna Thomas (Mainland Regional) won the 800 in 8:50.84 in a 160-128 win over Navy. She also finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:05.06) for the 11th-ranked Cavaliers (9-1).
Ice hockey: Zach Stern (St. Augustine Prep) scored the game-winning goal at the buzzer for Robert Morris University's club team as it defeated Stony Brook 4-3 Saturday. He had two goals and two assists Sunday in a 6-4 win over Stony Brook.
Men's track & field: New Jersey City University's Christian Cox (Southern Regional) ran the 55-meter dash in 6.61 seconds, an ECAC qualifying time, to finish 17th out of 56 sprinters at the University of Albany Great Dane Classic. Cox was the top D-III finisher at the meet. He also competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 52.73 for 43rd place. ... Rowan's Nick Huddy (Egg Harbor Township) helped the Profs to a third-place finish in the 3,200 relay as the team finished fourth at the Thomson Invitational at the University of Delaware. ... Boston College's Michael Keebler (Holy Spirit) finished the mile in 4:19.39 at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Monmouth's Ford Palmer (Absegami) was 14th in the 800, finishing in 1:53.98 to qualify for the IC4A championships. He also was a member of the fifth-place distance medley relay. Teammate Geoff Navarro (Absegami) won the 55-meter dash in 6.47 and finished fourth in the 200 in a school record-tying time of 21.79, also qualifying him for the IC4A's. He also helped the 1600 relay team to an IC4A qualifying time of 3:18.8. ... Jule Brooks (Atlantic City) was second in the 55-meter dash (6.74) for TCNJ at the McElligot Invitational at Haverford.
Women's track & field: Rowan's Lisa Jones (Oakcrest) was a member of the winning 3,200 relay as the Profs finished second at the Thomson Invitational at the University of Delaware. ... TCNJ's Kayla Ghanavati (Ocean City) finished third in the 200 (27.19) and fourth in the 55-meter dash (7.63) at the McElligot Invitational hosted by Haverford.
Women's basketball: Washington College's Sally O'Donnell (Wildwood Catholic) had 16 points, five rebounds and three blocks in a 77-68 loss to Gettysburg. Jane O'Donnell (Wildwood Catholic) added five points and broke the career record for 3-pointers made with her 234th, moving her ahead of Katie Piringer. ... Rowan's Alissa Lamey (Mainland Regional) had eight points and six assists in a 84-53 win over Rutgers-Camden. She tied her career-high with 12 assists in an 80-55 win over Salisbury and had five points and three steals in a 70-67 loss to William Paterson. ... Stephanie Summers (Atlantic City) had two points and two blocks for William Paterson. ... Felician College freshman Tye Simmonds (Sacred Heart) is averaging 7.4 minutes, 1.8 points, and 2.5 rebounds per game.

Drew University's Lucas Levenson (Atlantic City) had nine points and eight rebounds in a 74-71 double overtime victory against Montclair. ... Matt DeSouza (Holy Spirit) scored five points in six minutes as Rowan defeated Rutgers-Camden 94-76. He had 10 points in a 85-61 loss to William Paterson. ... Kevin Brown (Millville) had nine points, eight rebounds and five assists for Rutgers-Camden and Akeem Lloyd (Atlantic City) added two points and one rebound. ... Dave Beyel (Ocean City) led Tuft's University with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in a 77-67 win over Wheaton College. He also recorded 15 points and five rebounds in a 83-81 loss to Connecticut College. ... Frank Champion (Mainland Regional) had 10 points, eight rebounds, one block and one assist in a 80-59 win over Marywood. ... Widener's Bobby Edmunds (Mainland Regional) collected scored 12 second-half points in a 69-57 win over Messiah.
Wrestling: TCNJ's Brian Broderick (Southern Regional) won all three of his matches at 174-pounds at the annual Metropolitan Conference/New England Duals at Williams College. Ed Broderick (Southern Regional) pinned two of his three heavyweight opponents. The second was his 50th career win as a Lion. Later in the week, Brian was one of four winners as the Lions fell to Springfield College 25-16. He won a 6-5 decision. ... Plymouth State 184-pound Zac Giovanetti (Mainland Regional) went 2-1 in a quad meet at Wilkes College. Both of his wins came by pin and he is now 7-3 in the last ten matches.
Soccer: Chestnut Hill's Julian Fernandez (Absegami) and Jackie Nevius (Oakcrest) were two of eight Griffins named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference 2009 Fall All-Academic Team. Fernandez is a two-time honoree with a 3.65 GPA and Nevius is a three-time honoree with a 3.89 GPA.
