Delaware running back Andrew Pierce (Cumberland Regional) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row after posting back-to-back 100 yard rushing games to begin his collegiate career, becoming the first Blue Hen to ever achieve that feat. In two games, Pierce has 284 yards on 39 carries, and is leading the league in average yards per game with 142.
Freshman free safety Brandon Collins (Holy Spirit) had two tackles in his first collegiate football game for Division II Cheyney University, a 12-0 loss to Lincoln University. ... Rowan running back Keith Corcoran (St. Joseph) rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including a 73 yard touchdown run, in a 24-17 win over Lycoming College. He was named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week for his effort. ... Senior linebacker Steve Hague (Buena) recorded nine stops (five solo, four assisted) and two tackles for a loss in Rowan's opening game against Lycoming.
Sophomore Karisse Bendijo (Egg Harbor Township) earned the first NJAC tennis player of the week selection of the season while playing for The College of New Jersey. In her first match of the season she posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at first singles against Rutgers-Newark. She also teamed with Allison Teirney for an 8-1 pro-set win at first doubles. The victory saw TCNJ's NJAC winning streak extend to 132 consecutive matches. ... University of Delaware women's tennis player Megan Doran (Holy Spirit) won the Flight A finals against teammate Dorothy Safron at the Swarthmore Invitational. Doran went 3-0 on the way to the final, then defeated Safron 6-3, 6-2 for her first intercollegiate title.
Freshman Shari Grinceri (St. Joseph) scored a goal in her first game for Rider University. Rider defeated Colgate University 5-1. ... Junior goalie Lisa Apt (Oakcrest) made three saves in 64 minutes during Rowan's 6-0 victory over Cabrini College.
Senior goalie Leandra Russo (Absegami) earned three shutout victories for Kean's women's soccer team through four games. Kean went 3-0-1 during that stretch. ... Freshman midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Ocean City) scored a goal and added an assist in each of her first two games for Chestnut Hill College. She was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week.
