The Egg Harbor Township High School boys lightweight-four boat finished sixth in the men's youth lightweight four final Sunday at the USRowing Youth National Championships on Lake Harshaw, near Cincinnati.
Everett Rowing Association, of Everett, Wash., won the six-boat 2,000-meter final in 6 minutes, 51.25 seconds. EHT led with 800 meters to go but faded to sixth and finished in 7:05.73.
The St. Augustine Prep boys varsity eight placed third in the men's youth eight petite (consolation) final in 6:06.58. The St. Augustine boys lightweight eight was sixth in a seven-boat men's youth lightweight eight petite final in 6:28.01.
The EHT boys lightweight four crew was stroke Dan Walz, Brad Miller, Ray DePhillips, bow Justin Ebert and coxswain Matt Ciarallo.
"We were leading but didn't have anything left in the tank," EHT coach Zach Palombo said. "It just caught up to us. We haven't gone 2,000 meters all year."
The USRowing Youth Nationals includes high school teams, five-year prep schools and rowing clubs that can draw from several high schools.
The St. Augustine Prep boys varsity eight had the best time for scholastic crews in either the final or petite final.
The St. Augustine varsity eight was bow Vince Granese, Eric Szendrey, Jason Browne, Michael Faust, Tom Lindeman, Kurt Linton, Ted Baumgardner, stroke Matt McPeak and coxswain Ryan Anthony. The Hermits' lightweight eight was stroke Andrew Parenti, Brandon Wilbraham, Andrew Carmody, Kyle Mathews, Kevin Walls, Nico Richey, Zach Zipf, bow Dan Fitzpatrick and coxswain Marco Orsimarsi.
