Surfcasters seemed to be as much interested in striped bass and bluefish as in turkeys over the past few days.

Joann Sullivan of Brant Beach put her Thanksgiving day dinner off until today. On Thursday, she caught a 19.94 bass with bunker at Holgate. She weighed it for the Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic, and returned to the beach for more fishing. On Wednesday, husband Ray got a 19-pound bass and Joann caught an 11.56-pound bluefish at Holgate.

Birds came up again off Long Beach Island, and the boaters did well, according to Margaret O'Brien at Jingle's Bait and Tackle in North Beach Haven.

Larry O'Brien of Berlin fished the surf in Cape May at the gunmount and caught a 49 1/2-pound striped bass, reported Matt Slobodjian at Jim's Bait and Tackle. Slobodjian said O'Brien caught other stripers.

Delaware Bay is having one of the best seasons in recent years with plenty of stripers and big blues. Tom Sacca got a 44-pound bass. Pat Harris at Longreach Marina said a 16-pound bass was caught in Delaware Bay recently.
