Women's national team soccer star Heather Mitts signed a deal Wednesday to play with the new Philadelphia Independence team of the WPS.

Mitts, who played with the Philadelphia Charge of the WUSA from 2001 to 2003 is one of the most recognizable faces in women's soccer.

In March of this year she became only the 25th female player to play for the United STates in 100 games.

"Philly has always had a special place in my heart, so I'm very excited to have this opportunity. It's where I began my professional career and most likely where I will end it," Mitts said in a statement from the team. "I've been impressed with the organization and its plans for the team. I'm thrilled by the depth of players already acquired and look forward to playing in front of the passionate Philly fans once again."

During her time in Philadelphia, Mitts was also known for dating Eagles backup QB A.J. Feeley. And, according to web reports, the two got engaged on Christmas in 2008. Feeley started the season in Philadelphia, but was released by the team and signed with Carolina.
