Rutgers Scarlet Knights
The Legends Classic is a two-day men's college basketball tournament starting Friday at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Each day leading up to the event, The Press will preview one of the Classic's four teams (Massachusetts, Rutgers, Florida and Michigan State).
First game: 5:30 p.m. Friday vs. Massachusetts
'09-10 record: 2-1 '08-09 record: 11-21
Coach: Fred Hill (32-60)
Conference: Big East
Season outlook: Rutgers faces a tough schedule being in the Big East and is very young with nine underclassmen. The Scarlet Knights have gone with more speed and offense but, in turn, have suffered in the rebounding department. Their schedule will get hard right after Christmas when they face North Carolina.
So far this season: The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 77-71 loss to Vermont but started the season with wins against Marist (74-67) and Drexel (58-56).
Players to watch: Sophomores Mike Rosario averages 17.3 points a game and Gregory Echenique averages 12.7 points and 9.7 rebounds a game.
Interesting fact: Redshirt junior Jonathan Mitchell won a national championship as a true freshman with Florida, whom the Scarlet Knights could face on Saturday.
Tomorrow's preview: Florida
