Atlantic City lightweight Osnel Charles snapped a seven-fight winless streak with a victory at Harrah's Philadelphia in Chester, Pa., late Friday night.

Charles (10-8-1, 1 KO) gained an eight-round, split decision over Victor Vasquez (16-9-1, 7 KOs), of Philadelphia. Charles had gone 0-6-1 in his last seven bouts dating back to 2011.

According to boxrec.com, judges Dave Braslow (77-74) and George Hill (77-74) both favored Charles while Pierre Benoist (78-74) had Vasquez ahead.

Charles scored the only knockdown of the fight in the second round. Charles also beat Vasquez via majority decision three years ago.

Boxing returns to Atlantic City on Saturday when WBO light-heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 KOs) defends his title against Cedric Agnew (26-0, 13 KOs) at Boardwalk Hall's Adrian Phillips Ballroom. The bout will also be shown as part of HBO's Boxing After Dark series. Millville junior-middleweight Ismael Garcia (5-0, 3 KOs) is on the undercard in a six-rounder against Dushane Crooks (6-0, 4 KOs), of New York. Atlantic City super-middleweight Rafael Jastrzebski (4-7-1, 1 KO) will face Paterson's Michael Mitchell (2-3-2) in a four-rounder.

On April 12, Millville middleweight Thomas LaManna (13-0, 7 KOs) makes his 2014 debut at Bally's Atlantic City in an eight-rounder against Ahsandi Gibbs (10-3-2, 4 KOs), of Tampa, Fla. Atlantic City super-middleweight Antowyan Aikins (8-0, 1 KO) is on the same card in a six-rounder against Sherman Artis, Jr. (2-0, 0 KOs), of Severn, Md.
