The Barnegat Light Beach Patrol captured the Long Beach Island Lifeguard Tournament's team title for the fifth straight year on Saturday at the 15th Street beach in Ship Bottom. B.L. clinched it with wins in three of the last four races.
Barnegat Light finished with 107 points in the two-day tournament, while Harvey Cedars was second with 91 points. Surf City scored 84 points for third place, and Ship Bottom was fourth with 72.
Most of the races were out to markers 500 feet from shore and back.
Caren Guyett won the 1,000-foot women's swim for Barnegat Light on Saturday, and teammate Nate Humberston took the 2,000-foot paddle race. The Barnegat Light crew of Don Adams Jr. and Kati Lyons won the mixed doubles row. The winning patrol also captured the line pull and the surf dash.
Zach Schwartz of Harvey Cedars was first in the 1,000-foot men's swim. Harvey Cedars also won the paddle rescue.
Surf City's Matt Kaminskas and Mark Dileo won the 1,000-foot doubles row, and teammate Evan Garner took the 1,000-foot singles row. Surf City was also first in the 1,000-foot doubles row.
The surfboat relay, a new event, was held Saturday and Ship Bottom earned its only win of the tournament. The Ship Bottom crews were Jimmy Lamarco and Shawn Hannon, Tom Smith and Dennis Harrington, and Tom Duralek and Nick Cascio.
Barnegat Light won three of Friday's seven races, while Surf City and Harvey Cedars each won two.
