Joe Gatto had a big day as the St. Augustine Prep baseball team beat Princeton Day 12-6 in a nonconference baseball game on Friday.

The junior struck out 10 for his first win of the season and helped himself, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. First baseman Jay Higbee went 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBIs.

Middle Township's Jim Versage was 2-for-3 with a triple, and Jeffrey Keyes had an RBI double for the Panthers in a game at ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Fla. Steve Hand threw a complete game and struck out seven. Middle returns to South Jersey to play Cedar Creek on Monday.

Hammonton center fielder Alex Padovani hit a three-run homer in the second inning and he added a solo homer in the third at the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The game ended after five innings on the 10-run rule.

Also for the Blue Devils, Chris Ezzi went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Justin Smith was 1-for-1 with a sacrifice fly and a two-run single.

Winning pitcher Anthony Cappuccio went three innings, with three walks and four strikeouts. Reliever Andrew Hamilton worked the final two innings.

Toms River East's Christian Danyo hit three solo home runs. Southern catcher Mark Heslin hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Heslin also had a double. Southern's Eric Hammell had a double and a single, two runs and two stolen bases. The visiting Rams (0-3) committed seven errors. Further details were unavailable.

Wildwood's Devon Bradshaw doubled and was hit by a pitch.
