The Southern Regional High School boys volleyball team beat visiting Cherry Hill East High School 2-0 in a South Jersey semifinal match in Stafford Township. The game scores were 25-13 and 25-18.

Southern (33-4) hosts Williamstown at 5 p.m. Friday in the South Jersey championship match.

Southern's Kyle Ficken had seven kills, while teammate Brandon Lee added six kills and three aces, and Mike Gesicki had three kills and four blocks, Luke King had 17 assists for the Rams, and Jake Logue added three blocks.

"We hadn't played Cherry Hill East this year, but we had plenty of videotape on them," Southern coach Eric Maxwell said. "We figured if we came out and played our game that we'd be OK."

The score was 5-5 in the first game against Cherry Hill East, but the Rams went on an 8-1 run. The Cougars dropped to 16-6.

"After the run we were able to control the match the rest of the way," Maxwell said. "Our blocking game was real solid, and it really prevented them from getting on any kind of runs."

Southern has won New Jersey high school boys volleyball's first three South Jersey championships. A win Friday would put the Rams in the state Final Four for the fifth straight year.

The state semifinals will be held at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, at South Brunswick High School, and the final will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at the same site.
