The threat of Hurricane Irene already has affected the local sporting calendar.

The sixth annual Hammer Row in the Seaview Harbor section of Egg Harbor Township was postponed Thursday until 6:30 p.m. next Thursday, Sept. 1, at 6:30 p.m.

The race was postponed due to a forecast for inclement weather and because lifeguards were needed for hurricane preparation.

Also, the Wild-Half Marathon scheduled for Sunday in Wildwood was canceled, race officials announced Thursday, due to the impending storm. The 13.1-mile run through Wildwood Crest, Wildwood, North Wildwood and Anglesea will not be rescheduled.

Runners already registered for the race will be notified by email about registration refunds.
