Brigantine resident and rising Holy Spirit senior skipper Allyson Donahue and sailing partner and crew Maddie Widmeier sit in first place after the first day of the 2012 U.S. Junior Doublehanded Championship on Lake Minnetonka in Deephaven, Minn. Wednesday.

The duo placed fourth, second and first in three races on the day for a total of seven points. Carolyn Smith and Bayley Davidson of Newport Harbor Yacht Club/Balboa Yacht Club are in second with 10 points. The team with the fewest number of points is in first place.

Donahue and Widmeier, a Pipersville, Pa. resident and summer resident of the Brant Beach section of Long Beach Township, placed second at last year’s event. Currently, they lead 37 other boats. The pair will resume racing today and the event will conclude Friday.
