The Buena 14-U Little League baseball team beat Newark 3-1 on Saturday in Gloucester City in the state tournment.

Winning pitcher Kris Morgenweck gave up two hits in the game, which was shortened to six innings due to lightning.

George DiBiase hit a two-run single in the fourth inning, and Lenny Coulter singled in a run.

Buena, in the losers bracket, plays its next game at 7 p.m. Monday in Gloucester City against the loser of today’s game between Howell and Madison.

Buena lost to Howell 8-4 in its tournament opener Friday. Andrew Cartier and Dom Lopez each had two hits for Buena.
