Twenty local high schools qualified for the South Jersey baseball playoffs as the sectional brackets were released today by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.
Buena Regional grabbed the top seed in Group II. The Chiefs will host No. 16 Atlantic County Institute of Technology. ACIT makes the field in its first year of varsity ball.
The best local game of the first round is in Group II between neighboring rivals No. 5 Middle Township vs. No. 12 Lower Cape May Regional. The winner of that game could face No. 13 Barnegat in the second round. The Bengals travel to No. 4 Cinnaminson. No. 10 Cedar Creek travels to No. 7 Manchester Township.
In Group IV, No. 16 Millville travels to No. 1 Eastern, No. 13 Absegami goes to No. 4 Williamstown, No. 10 Egg Harbor Township goes to No. 7 Lenape and in a matchup of two local teams, No. 2 Vineland hosts No. 15 Atlantic City. The winner of the Vineland vs. Atlantic City game could face EHT in the second round.
In Group III, No. 12 Oakcrest will face No. 5 Burlington Township, No. 4 Cumberland Regional will host No. 13 Winslow Township, No. 3 Ocean City will host No. 14 Camden Tech and No. 6 Hammonton will host No. 11 Seneca. Hammonton and Ocean City could meet in the second round.
In South Non-Public B, No. 8 St. Joseph hosts No. 9 Roselle Catholic, No. 12 Wildwood Catholic travels to No. 5 Rutgers Prep and No. 10 Sacred Heart travels to No. 7 Gill St. Bernard's.
In South Non-Public A, No. 3 St. Augustine Prep hosts No. 14 Monsignor Donovan, while No. 7 Holy Spirit hosts No. 10 Holy Cross. St. Augustine is the defending state Non-Public A champion.
The first round of games is scheduled to take place on May 24.
