The Phillies will feature some versatile players on the bench.
Utility men Kevin Frandsen and Freddy Galvis will give manager Charlie Manuel flexibility.
Frandsen batted .338 (66-for-195) in 55 games for the Phillies last season. He has played first base, second base, shortstop, third base and the outfield since his Major League career began with the San Francisco Giants in 2006.
Galvis is primarily a shortstop but he can also play second and third and has seen time in left and right field this spring. Galvis is batting .284 (21-for-74) this spring.
The rest of the Phillies bench isn't so clear. Ender Inciarte could be the fifth outfielder. Pete Orr is also competing for a bench spot. Humberto Quintero will probably begin the season as the backup catcher since Carlos Ruiz will be serving a 25-game suspension for testing positive for Adderall.
