One more time: Decent flounder have not completely moved out of bays and inlets to inshore wrecks and reefs.
Mary Ann Anagnou said an unnamed woman fishing from Dad's Place Pier in Hereford on Thursday had the best one-day flounder catch with five keepers in the 23 years that Anagnou has been managing the pier with son Mars. Mary Ann said the angler was using minnows for bait.
Other reports indicate flounder are mixing with sea bass, triggerfish, tautog, mahi, sheepshead and small bluefish on the reefs.
Atlantic City Reef was singled out in a report by Scott Albertson at Scott's Bait and Tackle in Mystic Islands. Scott said Litttle Egg Reef might be fished out, so try elsewhere.
Full-moon reef fishing is good, according to Mike O'Neill. The captain of the Stray Cat charter/open boat out of Seaview Harbor Marine in Great Egg Inlet said they have been getting some 5-pound flounder.
Chuck Hinchcliffe said from Hinch Marina in Cape May that flounder are strong at Old Grounds across Delaware Bay. He said a locally made lure called a Rattletail has been working. He said they come in all weights, but the 6- to 8-ounce bucktail with a rattle built in is working.
