Howard Sefton said we need to start calling our waters the "Atlantic-Caribbean" because of some of the interesting reports and consistent mid-70s water temperatures we have had around here.

He said today from Capt. Howard's Bait and Tackle in Egg Harbor City that recreational crabbers catch 4- to 5-inch "baby" sheepshead in their nets.

He thinks summer will last to December this year

To reinforce that thought, Evan Reboli of Summit, Pa., got a 2-7 pound, 38-inch needlefish while trolling a Clark's spoon at 5-Fathom Bank on Joe Lyons' Tara Anne, and Tim McGregor of Wildwood caught a 57-pound wahoo while trolling a blue and white Ilander inside Baltimore Canyon. Both were certified at Sterling Harbor Marina in Wildwood.

All kinds of species have been seen or caught offshore from white and blue marlin, a sailfish, plus mahi, bonito and skipjacks, and numerous sharks, including hammerheads. Tuna are spreading out and venturing as close to the beach as Ocean City reef. Cobia and another needlefish were among recent reports.

And just to touch on the opposite side of things, crabbing is excellent according to numerous reports.
