Michael Vick was sharp again on Friday. He connected with wide receiver DeSean Jackson on a few big plays, including a 45-yarder down the sideline.
Nick Foles was also impressive. He seems to be building a rapport with undrafted free agent wide receiver Ifeanyi Momah, who made a diving catch in the end zone that drew applause from the fans.
Rookie Matt Barkley teamed with wide receiver Jason Avant for a long gain. Avant was shaken up after making a diving catch, but returned to action.
The new guys
Wide receiver Arrelious Benn remained sidelined with a strained knee suffered in the first practice of training camp.
Rookie Lane Johnson, the team's first-round draft pick, took the reps at left tackle with the first-team offense, while Jason Peters sat out with a sore hamstring.
Rookie tight end Will Shaw had a tough time trying to stop veteran linebacker Trent Cole during the one-on-one drills.
Position analysis: Tight end
Returning players: Brent Celek (starter), Clay Harbor, Derek Carrier (practice squad)
Newcomers: James Casey (starter, free agent), Zach Ertz (draft pick), Will Shaw (rookie free agent).
Outlook: Casey, Celek and Ertz will all get a lot of playing time this season in coach Chip Kelly's offense. Casey is viewed as a hybrid who can line up at tight end, fullback and even wide receiver. Celek is the most physical player of the group and the best blocker. Ertz, the second-round draft pick, is big, strong and fast. He could be the steal of the draft. Harbor has an outside shot at making the roster.
If the season started today
Damaris Johnson would be a starting wide receiver. He took the reps with the first-team offense after Riley Cooper left the team to seek sensitivity training and counseling.
Play of the day
Kelly showed his compassionate side by insisting that Cooper's absence would have no effect on his status with the team.
What they're saying
Kelly, on insisting that Cooper attend practice Thursday: "I didn't want Riley to be by himself. We still care about Riley. I care about Riley, guys on this team care about Riley."
Bumps and bruises
Benn (strained knee), defensive tackle Antonio Dixon (strained hamstring), Carrier (bruised shoulder), tackle Dennis Kelly (lower back spasms), Peters (strained hamstring) and tackle Ed Wang (strained knee) did not practice Friday. Jackson was back after leaving Thursday's workout with a toe injury.
They are off today. They are scheduled to practice Sunday at the NovaCare Complex in front of approximately 400 invited guests at 12:30 p.m. Their next public workout is scheduled for Monday at Lincoln Financial Field. The team has issued more than 51,700 tickets.
