Why this is their biggest game of the year

Eagles (1-3) at New York Giants (0-4), Sunday, 1 p.m., MetLife Stadium

Despite their lopsided loss at Denver, the Eagles are still very much alive in the NFC East. They are in second place in the division, just one game behind Dallas (2-2) with 12 games remaining. A victory over the struggling Giants would not only give them some much-needed confidence, it would also boost their record to 2-0 against division opponents.

Evaluating the Eagles

(Observations from the 52-20 loss at Denver)

Tight end Brent Celek: First-quarter drop prevented a touchdown.

Quarterback Nick Foles: No, he's not replacing Michael Vick.

Running back Chris Polk: Found the end zone on his first career carry.

Nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga: Hard to believe a 300-pound man could be so invisible.

Cornerback Cary Williams: Receivers shouldn't be that open.

Safety Earl Wolff: Not ready to be a starter.

Evaluating their special teams

The Eagles' special teams surrendered two touchdowns in a terrible display. Cornerback Jordan Poyer appeared to be held during Trindon Holliday's 105-yard kickoff return - the longest allowed in team history - but that doesn't excuse the other 10 players. And no one bothered to block the Broncos' Steven Johnson on an Eagles fourth-quarter punt, allowing him to block Donnie Jones' kick almost before it left his foot and return it 17 yards for a touchdown.

3-and-out with Chip Kelly

(After the game)

Q: Are you thinking about changing quarterbacks?

A: Not at all.

Q: Did you feel your team put forth enough effort to win?

A: Overall, at the end, no. You get worn down in a game like this.

Q: Can teams lose their spirit at the NFL level?

A: It can happen at any level.
