Philadelphia Union manager Peter Nowak has taken quite a gamble in trading striker Sebastien Le Toux to the Vancouver Whitecaps ahead of the 2012 MLS season.

PHILADELPHIA — The fired coach of the Philadelphia Union has sued the soccer club’s owners over his $373,000 annual contract.

Peter Nowak says the firing violates a contract guarantee through 2015.

The Naples, Fla., resident was fired last month after a 2-7-2 start that had the Union in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Major League Soccer club remained in ninth place on Thursday.

The club’s termination letter alleges Nowak created a hostile work environment, berating and intimidating other employees. Nowak also has been told to repay a $46,000 advance.

Nowak is seeking at least $150,000 from the federal lawsuit, filed last week in Philadelphia.

His lawsuit says he rejected a separation agreement that would have paid him through the end of 2012.
