Funeral services for former Southern Regional High School basketball and field hockey coach Kathy Snyder were announced on Sunday.

Snyder, 58, of Ship Bottom, passed away in her sleep on early Friday morning.

Visiting hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Maxwell Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, in the Manahawkin section of Stafford Township. 

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Southern Regional High School gymnasium. 

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Kathy Snyder Scholarship Fund, Southern Regional Board of Education, 105 Cedar Bridge Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050, Attn: Susan Foster.

Snyder was in her 35th season as the basketball coach and had a 547-311 career record. Snyder led the Rams to the 1997 South Jersey Group IV and 1984 Shore Conference championships. Southern also advanced to the S.J. Group IV final in 2009 and 2010.

In field hockey, Snyder won 310 games and was The Press Coach of the Year in 2011.


Started at The Press in 1993 as an Ocean County reporter. Moved to the copy desk in 1994 until taking over as editor of At The Shore in 1995. Became deputy sports editor in 2004 and was promoted to sports editor in 2007.
