The Spartans’ biggest moment was winning the Philadelphia City Championship final for the first time since 2004. The Holy Spirit crew won the New Jersey Scholastic Rowing Championship, commonly called “States,” by more than three seconds. The Spartans took the Atlantic County High School Rowing Championships race by more than eight seconds.

Holy Spirit had early-season success, winning at States, the City Championship and the Atlantic County race to become the All-Star boat. Absegami did better thereafter, finishing fourth at the Stotesbury Cup while Holy Spirit didn’t make the final. Both failed to make the final at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America Regatta, commonly called “Nationals.”

The area’s only undefeated boat. The Spartans won each of the five championship races, the closest of which was a victory by 3.51 seconds over Merion Mercy (Pa.) at Nationals. The Holy Spirit team can lay claim to being America’s top high school girls lightweight eight, after finishing behind only four rowing clubs at the USRowing Youth Nationals on June 9 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The Mustangs crew won by more than seven seconds at States, and took the Philadelphia City Championships final by 0.79 seconds over rival rival Harriton (Pa.). Easily won the Atlantic County race, before finishing fourth at Stotesbury. The Mainland crew finished fourth at Nationals in a race won by Harriton.

After losing to Egg Harbor Township at States, the Oakcrest crew was second to Montclair at the City Championships, and won the Atlantic County race. The Falcons clinched the All-Star spot by placing fifth at Stotesbury and fourth at Nationals.
