The Tri-Cape softball team won its first game of this year's Carpenter Cup tournament, beating Berks County/Lancaster Lebanon 3-2 on Monday at FDR Park in Philadelphia. Alyssa Discepola, of Middle Township High School, singled in the winning run in the fourth inning.
Tri-Cape has players from the Cape-Atlantic League and Tri-County Conference.
Winning pitcher Jackie DeLong (Wildwood Catholic) came on in relief in the fourth inning and allowed one hit, struck out seven and walked one.
Tri-Cape took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the fourth. Lauren Tobolski (Millville) reached on an error, Angela Antonini (Gloucester Catholic) singled and DeLong singled in the tying run.
Due to rain on Monday, Tri-Cape's scheduled second game was moved to Wednesday at 8:30 a,m. against Lehigh Valley at FDR Park. The winner plays again at 11:45 a.m., while the loser plays again at 10:30 a.m. If Tri-Cape has one or no losses after its second game of the day, it will play a third game Wednesday in the afternoon.
