Pilgrim Paddle

Brothers Dan Garbutt and Matt Garbutt, representing the Ocean City Beach Patrol, won the fourth annual Pilgrim Paddle, a 3.7-mile row for doubles crews in Van Duyne surfboats, on Thanksgiving morning in Beesleys Point in Upper Township. The Garbutts finished in 30 minutes, 3 seconds. Brothers Jim Swift and John Swift, Margate Beach Patrol alumni, were second in 30:30. Tom Sher, a Ventnor alumnus, and Jeff Garbutt, an Ocean City guard, were third in 30:47. Fourteen crews and one singles rower took part in the race, and all finished.

St. Augustine Prep/Michael Fralinger Tournament

The St. Augustine Prep boys swimming team won the tournament’s boys division on Saturday at the Navone Pool at the Prep. Oakcrest, which had a coed team, won the girls/coed division.

St. Augustine defeated Holy Spirit in the boys final, and Oakcrest beat the Holy Spirit girls team in the girls/coed final.

The St. Augustine, Holy Spirit, Millville, Oakcrest and Our Lady of Mercy Academy swimming teams competed in the event. Oakcrest and Millville, with smaller numbers, were combined into coed teams.
