Local sailors Allyson Donahue and Maddie Widmeier sit in 16th place after the first day of competition at the 2012 U.S. Youth Sailing Championships in Cascade Locks, Ore.
Donahue, 17, from Brigantine is a rising senior at Holy Spirit High School. Widmeier, 16, is a summer resident of the Brant Beach section of Long Beach Township.
The pair finished 23rd, 24th, and sixth in the first three races out of 33 competitors. They currently have 53 points. The championships will continue through Saturday.
