Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep) went 0-for-2 but walked and scored the game-tying run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Schaumburg (Ill.) Boomers beat the Lake Erie Crushers 6-5 in Game 1 of the best-of-five Frontier League championship series Saturday night.

Colon batted ninth and played center field, where he made two catches.

Game 2 is set for 5 p.m. Sunday. Game 3 will be played at Lake Erie (Avon, Ohio) on Tuesday. If necessary, Lake Erie would host Game 4 on Wednesday, and the Boomers would host a decisive Game 5 Thursday.

Colon, who is from Vineland, hit .375 (3-for-8) with two home runs, four RBIs and five walks in four games in a semifinal series against the Florence (Ky.) Freedom.

He is hitting. 300 overall in the postseason.
