Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 1-for-5 for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) in a 5-2 win over the Birmingham Barons (White Sox) in the double-A Southern League on Sunday.

On Saturday, he went 0-for-3 with a walk in a 6-4 loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts (Dodgers).

Szczur is hitting .280 with 66 runs scored, 41 RBIs and 21 stolen bases on 33 attempts in 116 games.

His on-base percentage is .351. He is sixth in the Southern League in runs scored, tied for 12th in stolen bases and 15th in on-base percentage.

Darren Ford (Vineland) went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter for the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) in a 3-2 loss to the Syracuse Chiefs (Nationals) in the triple-A International League.

In 75 games, he is hitting .236 with 17 RBIs, 30 runs scored and 24 stolen bases on 33 attempts. He is eighth in the International League in stolen bases.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) took a loss Saturday night for the Lynchburg (Va.) Hillcats despite not having thrown a pitch.

He started a June 30 game that was suspended. The game resumed Saturday night with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans leading 3-2 on their way to a 5-4 win in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League.

Holland did not pitch in Saturday’s portion of the game. But in his June 30 appearance, and counting one of his runners who scored Saturday when the game resumed with another Lynchburg pitcher on the mound, he gave up four runs on three hits, including a home run, and three walks in two-plus innings. He struck out one.

Holland fell to 4-9 with a 5.06 ERA in 23 starts. In 112 innings, he has given up 121 hits, walked 56 and struck out 76. His last start was Tuesday.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is scheduled to start Tuesday night for the Clinton (Iowa) LumberKings (Mariners) against the Kane County Cougars (Cubs) in the single-A Midwest League.

The left-hander is 9-8 with a 4.49 ERA in 24 starts. In 1321/3 innings, he has given up 136 hits, walked 42 and struck out 77.

Darren Fischer (Cumberland Regional) is 0-3 with a 5.60 ERA in 11 relief appearances for the Princeton (W.Va.) Rays in the rookie-level Appalachian League.

In 171/3 innings, he has allowed 12 hits, walked seven and struck out 16. He has not pitched since Aug. 2.

Independent Leagues (unaffiliated with MLB)

Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep), from Vineland, went 0-for-2 with a walk for the Schaumburg (Ill.) Boomers in a 5-3 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums in the Frontier League on Sunday.

Colon, who batted ninth and played center field, is hitting .255 with five home runs, 29 RBIs and 27 runs in 70 games for the first-place Boomers (49-32).

Charlie Law (Mainland Regional) started and took the loss for the Rockland (N.Y.) Boulders in a 4-0 defeat to the Lincoln Saltdogs in the Can-Am League.

Law gave up four runs — two of which were unearned — on seven hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out seven.

Law fell to 2-3 with a 3.43 ERA in five starts. In 261/3 innings, he has allowed 33 hits, walked 17 and struck out 14.
