RHP Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) started Friday night for the Clinton LumberKings (Mariners) and took the loss in a 7-3 defeat to  the Quad Cities River Bandits (Astros) in the single-A Midwest League.

DeCecco, a left-hander who had pitched eight innings in two of his last three starts, was hit hard, giving up seven runs on nine hits, including two home runs, in four innings. He walked two and struck out none.

DeCecco is 9-8 with a 4.43 ERA in 23 starts. In 126 1/3 innings, he has given up 129 hits, walked 40 and struck out 72.

Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 1-for 3 with three walks and an RBI for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) in an 11-10 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays) in the double-A Southern League.

Szczur, who led off and played cener field, is hitting .283 with 64 runs scored, 41 RBIs and 21 steals on 32 attempts in 108 games.

OF Darren Ford (Vineland) was 1-for-3 (his fifth double of the year) with a walk and two runs scored for the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) in a 6-5 win over the Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) in the triple-A International League.

Ford, who led off and played center field, is hitting .229 with 26 runs scored, 15 RBIs and 22 stolen bases on 30 attempts in 68 games.

RHP A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is 4-8 with a 4.70 ERA in 21 starts for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Mariners) in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League.

In 107 innings, Holland has given up 113 hits and 50 walks with 73 strikeouts.

LHP Darren Fischer (Cumberland Regional) is 0-3 with a 5.60 ERA in 11 relief appearances for the Princeton Rays in the rookie-level Appalachian League.

In 17 2/3 innings, he has allowed 12 hits, 11 runs, walked seven and struck out 16. He has not pitched since Aug. 2.
