Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 2-for-4 with a walk for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) in a 4-3 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts (Dodgers) in the double-A Southern League on Saturday night.

Szczur, who batted leadoff and played center field, is hitting .281 with 78 runs scored, 42 RBIs and 22 stolen bases on 34 attempts in 127 games. His on-base percentage is .351.

Darren Ford (Vineland) did not start for the Indianapolis Indians against the Louisville Bats (Cincinnati) in a triple-A International League game that was still being played as of 12:20 a..m. Sunday.

Ford, an outfielder, is hitting .228 with 19 RBIs, 35 runs scored and 28 stolen bases on 38 attempts in 81 games.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) started and was the losing pitcher for the High Desert Mavericks (Mariners) in a 6-1 loss to the Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres) in the Class-A Advanced California League.

DeCecco pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits, including a home run, and three walks. He struck out five.

The scores was 1-1 when DeCecco left the game, but he was responsible for the runner who came around to score on the relief pitcher who replaced the left-handed starter.

He is 10-9 with a 4.26 ERA in 27 starts overall this season entering Saturday. In 150 innings, he has given up 153 hits, walked 46 and struck out 92.

He also pitched 24 games for the Clinton LumberKings in the single-A Midwest League this season. He is 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA in three starts since his promotion.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) did not appear for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Braves) against the Salem Red Sox in a game that was suspended in the fourth inning because of rain with Salem leading 1-0.

He is 5-9 with a 4.81 ERA in 27 appearances, all but the last four of which were starts. In 119 1/3 innings, he had allowed 130 hits, walked 57 and struck out 78.

Darren Fischer (Cumberland Regional) is 0-3 with a 5.30 ERA in 12 relief appearances this season for the Princeton (W.Va.) Rays in the rookie league Appalachian League.

In 182/3 innings, he has allowed 12 hits, walked seven and struck out 17.

Independent leagues (unaffiliated with MLB)

Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep) did not play for the Schaumburg (Ill.) Boomers in a 14-0 win over the Evansville Otters in the Frontier League.

Colon is hitting .266 with five home runs, 31 RBIs, five triples and 33 runs scored in 77 games.

Charlie Law (Mainland Regional) is 3-4 with a 3.20 ERA in seven starts for the Rockland Boulders in the Can-Am League.

In 39 1/3 innings, he has given up 39 hits, walked 28 and struck out 21. The team will host a pre-game ceremony tonight honoring Law for having pitched the first no-hitter in team history on Aug. 23.
