Local minor-leaguers: Matt Szczur goes 2-for-5, scores 90th run in 111th game this season

Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) was 2-for-5 with a run scored for the Tennessee Smokies in a 3-2 loss to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Reds) in the double-A Southern League on Saturday night.

Szczur is hitting .211 with 22 runs scored in 33 games for the Smokies and .269 with 90 runs in 111 games overall this season.

Darren Ford (Vineland) was hitting .270 with 26 stolen bases in 67 games this season for the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners) heading into their late game against the Fresno Grizzlies (Giants) in the triple-A Pacific Coast League.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is 4-9 with a 4.14 ERA in 16 games, including 15 starts, for the Rome Braves in the Class-A South Atlantic League.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 2-4 with a 5.50 ERA in 15 games, including nine starts, for the Everett AquaSox (Mariners) in the short-season Class-A Northwest League.

His next appearance likely will be in the playoffs, which start Monday.
