Local minor-leaguers: Matt Szczur goes 2-for-3, throws out a runner for Tennessee Smokies

Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 2-for-3 with a walk and threw out a runner at third base from center field as the Tennessee Smokies beat the Huntsville Stars (Brewers) 2-0 in the double-A Southern League on Saturday.

Szczur is hitting .230 in 16 games for the Smokies and .284 in 94 games overall.

Darren Ford (Vineland) was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts for the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners) in a 7-5 loss to the Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) in the triple-A Pacific Coast League. Ford is hitting .282 with 23 stolen bases in 48 games this season.

Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep) was hitting .182 with two home runs in 32 games for the Eugene Emeralds (Padres) heading into their late game against the Tri-City Dust Devils (Rockies) in the short-season Class A Northwest League.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 1-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 11 games, including five starts, for the Everett AquaSox (Mariners).

DeCecco did not start Saturday against the Spokane Indians (Rangers). His last start was Monday.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is on the disabled list of the Rome Braves in the Class-A South Atlantic League.

Holland is 2-7 with a 4.52 ERA in 12 games, including 11 starts, for Rome this year.
