Local minor-leaguers: Matt Szczur goes 2-for-4 with triple, run scored, RBI for Tennessee Smokies

Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 2-for-4, including a triple, with one run scored and one RBI for the Tennessee Smokies in a 4-3 loss to the Huntsville Stars (Brewers) in the double-A Southern League on Friday night.

Szczur is hitting .207 in 15 games for the Smokies and .280 in 93 games overall.

Darren Ford (Vineland) was 1-for-5 (a double) with a run scored for the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners) in a 3-1 loss to the Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) in the triple-A Pacific Coast League.

Ford is hitting .288 with 23 stolen bases in 47 games this season.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is on the disabled list of the Rome Braves in the Class-A South Atlantic League.

Holland is 2-7 with a 4.52 ERA in 12 games, including 11 starts, for Rome this year.

Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep) was hitting .182 with two home runs in 31 games for the Eugene Emeralds (Padres) heading into their late game against the Yakima Bears (Diamondbacks) in the short-season Class A Northwest League.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 1-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 11 games, including five starts, for the Everett AquaSox (Mariners).

DeCecco’s next likely start will be tonight at the Spokane Indians (Rangers).
