Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) gave up two runs - both unearned - in 4 2/3 innings but got a no-decision Sunday as the High Desert Mavericks lost 9-3 to the Visalia Rawhide (Diamondbacks) in the Advanced Class-A California League.

He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out five. He had one wild pitch, and he got seven groundouts and one flyout.

DeCecco is 1-2 with a 6.12 ERA in seven games, including four starts.

Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional H.S.) did not play for the Iowa Cubs in a 5-1 loss at the Nashville Sounds (Diamondbacks) in the triple-A Pacific Coast League.

Szczur, an outfielder, is hitting .267 (20-for-75) with one home run, 12 runs and 12 RBIs in 21 games. He has stolen five bases on eight attempts.

Darren Ford (Vineland) came off the disabled list for the Fresno Grizzlies (Giants) in the Pacific Coast League on Saturday, appearing as a defensive replacement (left field) in the eighth inning of their 6-4 win against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Dodgers).

He did not play Sunday in an 11-5 win over the Isotopes.

Ford, who had been on on the disabled list since suffering injuries trying to make a catch in an April 10 game, is hitting .350 (7-for-20).

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit), a pitcher for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Braves) in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League, started the season on the disabled list with an unspecified injury.

Darren Fischer (Cumberland Regional) is a pitcher with the Princeton (W.Va.) Rays, who start their rookie-level Appalachian League season June 19.

Independent leagues

Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep) is an outfielder with the Schaumburg (Ill.) Boomers, who start their Frontier League season May 16.

Charlie Law (Mainland Regional) is a pitcher with the Rockland (N.Y.) Boulders, who start their Can-Am League season May 23.
