Local minor-leaguers: Scott DeCecco takes loss for Clinton LumberKings

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) took the loss, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk in five innings, for the Clinton LumberKings (Mariners) in a 4-0 defeat to the Peoria Chiefs in the Class-A Midwest League on Thursday. DeCecco is 5-6 with a 4.24 ERA in 13 starts.

Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) got a run-scoring pinch-hit single in the seventh inning and finished 1-for-2 for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) in 3-2 loss to the Mississippi Braves in the double-A Southern League. Szczur, who stayed in the game and played left field, is hitting .289 with 37 runs scored, 28 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 61 games.

Darren Ford (Vineland) did not play for the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) in a 10-7 loss to the Durham Bulls (Rays) in the triple-A International League. Ford is hitting .202 with 22 hits, 11 runs scored, nine RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 33 games.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is 3-4 with a 4.43 ERA in 13 starts this season for the Lynchburg HillCats (Braves) in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League. He has struck out 45 and walked 34 in 69 innings. His next start has not yet been announced.
