OF Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) did not start for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) against Mobile on Friday night in the double-A Southern League. He pinch hit and went 1-for-2 with his 27th double in a 3-2 loss. Szczur is hitting .281 with 71 runs scored, 41 RBIs and 21 stolen bases on 33 attempts in 120 games.

OF Darren Ford (Vineland) did not play for the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) in a game against the Rochester Red Wings (Twins) in the triple-A International League on Friday that ended too late. Ford is hitting .236 with 17 RBIs, 30 runs scored and 24 stolen bases on 33 attempts.

LHP Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) of the High Desert Mavericks (Mariners) of the Advanced Class-A California League, is 9-8 with a 4.46 ERA in 25 starts. In 1371/3 innings, he has given up 143 hits, walked 42 and struck out 83. He also pitched 24 games for the Clinton LumberKings this season.

RHP A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is 5-9 with a 4.93 ERA in 25 games, all but the most recent of which were starts, for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Braves) of the Class-A Advanced Carolina League. He did not pitch Friday in an game against the Carolina Mudcats (Indians) that ended too late. In 115 innings, he has given up 124 hits, walked 56 and struck out 78.

RHP Darren Fischer (Cumberland Regional) is 0-3 with a 5.60 ERA in 11 relief appearances for the Princeton (W.Va.) Rays in the rookie-level Appalachian League. In 171/3 innings, he has allowed 12 hits, walked seven and struck out 16. He had not pitched since Aug. 2.

Independent leagues (unaffiliated with MLB)

OF Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep) did not play Friday for the Schaumburg (Ill.) Boomers in a 5-1 win over the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League. Colon is hitting .269 with five home runs, 31 RBIs, 15 doubles, five triples and 33 runs scored in 73 games through Friday. His on-base percentage is .344.

RHP Charlie Law (Mainland Regional) pitched a no-hitter Friday night against the New Jersey Jackals. See story here. Law is now 3-3 with a 2.97 ERA in six starts. In 331/3 innings, he has allowed 33 hits, walked 21 and struck out 18.
