Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) in a 9-2 win over the Birmingham Barons (White Sox) on Saturday in Game 3 of a best-of-five playoff series in the double-A Southern League.

In Game 2 Friday, Szczur went 1-for-4 with a strikeout as the Smokies lost 7-1 to Birmingham.

The Barons lead the series 2-1.

Independent leagues (unaffiliated with MLB)

Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep) went 0-for-1 with three walks and two runs scored for the Schaumburg (Illinois) Boomers in an 8-7 victory over the Florence Freedom in Game 1 of their best-of-five Frontier League playoff series Saturday.

Colon also stole a base.

Colon hit .255 with five home runs, 31 RBIs, five triples and 35 runs scored in 80 games during the regular season. His on-base percentage was .332.
