Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional H.S.) and the Iowa Cubs were rained out Friday night at the New Orleans Zephyrs (Marlins) in the triple-A Pacific Coast League. Szczur, an outfielder, is hitting .235 (20-for-85) in 25 games.

Darren Ford (Vineland) started in center field and batted leadoff for the Fresno Grizzlies (Giants) in an 8-1 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres) in the Pacific Coast League. Ford was 1-for-3 with an RBI, a walk, a run scored and a strikeout. Ford, an outfielder, was hitting .300 (9-for-30) in 13 games.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) improved his record to 2-2 in a 5-3 win by the High Desert Mavericks (Mariners) of the Advanced Class-A California League over the Lancaster JetHawks (Astros) on Friday night. He threw seven innings, giving up five hits and three runs. He struck out seven and walked two. He lowered his ERA to 5.63 in eight games, including five starts.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit), a pitcher for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Braves) in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League, is scheduled to make his second start of the season tonight against the Asheville Tourists (Rockies). Holland got a no-decision in his first start.
