Szczur is hitting .280 with 71 runs scored, 41 RBIs and 21 stolen bases on 33 attempts in 118 games.
LHP Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) gave up four runs, two earned, on seven hits and struck out six in five innings in the High Desert Mavericks' (Mariners) 18-16 13-inning loss to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Dodgers) in the advanced single-A California League Wednesday. He did not factor in the decision. The left-hander is 9-8 with a 3.60 ERA in 25 starts this season. In 137 1/3 innings, he has given up 143 hits, walked 42 and struck out 83.
OF Darren Ford (Vineland) and the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) did not play in the triple-A International League Wednesday. Ford came on as a pinch runner in the ninth inning Monday in a 3-2 loss to the Syracuse Chiefs (Nationals). In 76 games, he was hitting .236 with 17 RBIs, 30 runs scored and 24 stolen bases on 33 attempts.
RHP A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) picked up a win in a relief appearance Tuesday. He threw three scoreless innings, giving up three hits and striking out two for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Braves). He is 5-9 with a 4.93 ERA. In 115 innings, he has given up 124 hits, walked 56 and struck out 78.
RHP Darren Fischer (Cumberland Regional) is 0-3 with a 5.60 ERA in 11 relief appearances for the Princeton (W.Va.) Rays in the rookie-level Appalachian League. In 171/3 innings, he has allowed 12 hits, walked seven and struck out 16.
