The Press of Atlantic City Sports Writer David Weinberg earned two awards in the 2011 Boxing Writers’ Association of America national contest, the BWAA announced Tuesday.

Weinberg, 54, took honorable mention in event coverage for his account of Sergio Martinez’s 11th-round TKO victory over Darren Barker at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Oct. 1, 2011. He also won honorable mention in investigative reporting for his story on mismatches in boxing.

It marks the sixth time in the last 11 years Weinberg has won at least one award in the organization’s annual writing contest known as the Barney’s.

Weinberg, a member of The Press’ sports staff since 1986, will be honored with the other award winners at the BWAA’s 87th annual banquet in New York on June 6.
