The College of New Jersey’s Brian Broderick (Southern Regional) won by major decision (11-1) at 184 pounds as the Lions won their first dual meet of the season, 31-11 over Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken last Wednesday.

Broderick had two wins Saturday at the East Stroudsburg (Pa.) Open.

Albright College junior Mark Capetola (Egg Harbor Township) was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference second team. The defensive end totaled 101/2 tackles for loss over Albright’s last two games.

He leads the MAC with 161/2 tackles for loss and is third with six sacks. In a victory over Lebanon Valley College, he set school records with four forced fumbles and 61/2 tackles for loss.

Rowan University offensive lineman Rob Barrett (Southern Regional), linebacker Patrick Ruley (Atlantic City) and safeties Kurt Kingett (St. Augustine Prep) and Casey Dillon (Mainland Regional) were selected to the New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team. ... The College of New Jersey’s Patrick Kimball (Ocean City) was named to the second team.

Women’s soccer

Misericordia senior Nicolette Hensel (Buena Regional) was a key defensive player in a scoreless shutout game that ended in a 6-5 shootout win against Ithaca College on Saturday. Misericordia will play in the NCAA Division III Final Four in San Antonio, Texas starting Nov. 30.

Men’s basketball

Bentley University’s Jate Cheshul (Holy Spirit) scored eight points, including a 3-pointer, in a 63-50 loss to UMass-Lowell. ... University of the Sciences sophomore Garret Kerr (Middle Township) recorded a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds to propel the Devils to a 68-53 upset win over East Stroudsburg University in their home opener Saturday. T-John Casiello (Wildwood Catholic), a freshman at University of the Sciences, added three steals in Saturday’s win. ... Rowan University junior forward Matt Whitworth (Ocean City) scored 11 points in a 71-47 win over host Gettysburg College on Saturday.

Women’s basketball

Loretta Kelly (Wildwood) scored eight points in Rutgers-Camden’s 96-60 victory over Cairn University. ... Rowan University sophomore Bria Hill (Atlantic City) netted 17 points as the Profs defeated Albright 70-61 in the 10th annual Jim Crawley Tipoff Tournament at Frostburg State University on Saturday. She also scored eight points in a 62-56 victory against Frostburg State.

Field hockey

Montclair State senior Frances Schaefer (Holy Spirit) scored her team’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Tufts University in the NCAA Division III championship game Sunday. ... Muhlenberg College midfielder Devon Barber (Absegami) was selected to the 2012 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll for the fifth consecutive time. Barber is a neuroscience major and carries a cumulative GPA of 3.783.

Men’s swimming

Seton Hall University’s Ian Keyser (St. Augustine Prep), the 2009 Press Boys Swimmer of the Year, finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16 minutes, 9.16 seconds), sixth in the 500 freestyle (4:40.84) and 10th in the 400 individual medley (4:10.33) at the Patriot Invitational Swim Meet at George Mason University. ... University of Delaware’s Paul Gallagher (St. Augustine Prep) anchored the winning 400-meter medley relay team (3:24.22) at the Bucknell Invitational over the weekend. Gallagher also took second in the 100 freestyle (46.34 seconds) and swam on two second-place relays, the 200 medley (1:33.02) and 400 freestyle (3:05.41).

Bloomsburg University’s Bryan Masilotti (Vineland) won the 100 freestyle in 49.4 seconds as the Huskies defeated Dickinson College 135-115 on Saturday.

Rowan junior Brad Hawkins (Cumberland Regional) won the 100-meter backstroke in 56.52 seconds as the Profs beat Swarthmore College 145-108 Saturday in a nonconference meet.


West Chester University’s Michelle Heinemann (Egg Harbor Township) competed at an international dive meet hosted by Rutgers University on Saturday and Sunday.

She placed 13th on the three-meter springboard and 15th on the one-meter board in a field of 30 competitors.

Ice hockey

Wentworth sophomore Kevin Crowe (Absegami) scored a goal in the Leopards’ 4-1 victory over Suffolk on Saturday.
