The Cumberland County College baseball team continued its hot start by sweeping Middlesex County College in a doubleheader Sunday.

The Dukes won the first game 8-7 and the second game 2-0 to improve to 17-3 and 5-0 in the Garden State Athletic Conference.

In the first game, Cumberland rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning after it was unable to hold a 5-2 lead in the top of the inning.

The Dukes earned the victory when John Banes was walked with the bases loaded. Greg Avis earned the win by striking out the only batter he faced in the top of the seventh.

Banes went 2 for 4 with two runs scored in addition to the game-winning RBI. Tovine Potts (Vineland) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Ivan Solis went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

In the second game Justin Smith (Hammonton) threw a complete-game shutout, striking out nine and giving up five hits.

Marco Rios (Buena Regional) had an RBI on a sacrifice fly and Mitch Walker and Anthony Harrold both went 2 for 3.
