The Kean University football team scored 21 points in the second quarter and beat host Rowan University 24-10 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game in Glassboro.
Both teams are 5-4 overall and 4-4 NJAC.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Kean went up 21-0 with a 65-yard touchdown pass, a 26-yard interception return for a score, and a 59-yard run for a touchdown. Running back Ryan Matthews rushed for 174 yards for the Cougars and scored the third TD.
For Rowan, running back Gawain Bragg gained 47 yards on 19 carries and scored the Profs’ touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter. Tyler Knighton kicked a 23-yard field goal in the final minute of the first half. Quarterback Dante Pinckney completed 25 of 47 passes for 264 yards.
Rowan wide receiver Dashown Waller (Mainland Regional) caught five passes for 33 yards. Defensive back Bobby Barbieri (Hammonton) had six tackles, while linebacker Ryan Brenner (Mainland Regional) had five tackles and Chris Henchy (Absegami) had three tackles, including a sack. Defensive end Kevin Stokes (Oakcrest) and defensive backs Jared Sanchez (Hammonton) and Shaquille Lee (Millville) each added two tackles.
Rowan plays its final game of the season at The College of New Jersey in Ewing Township at 7 p.m. Friday.
