Local colleges: Stockton field hockey loses to The College of New Jersey

The Richard Stockton College field hockey team opened New Jersey Athletic Conference play with a 5-0 loss to The College of New Jersey on Tuesday.

Sara Winters made five saves for the Ospreys (1-4). Gabrielle Evans recorded a defensive save.

For the Lions (3-0), freshman Roisin Dougherty, an Ocean City High School graduate, made two saves for the shutout.

Jillian Nealon scored three goals and had an assist for TCNJ.

Stockton plays at noon Saturday at Eastern University.

Goalies—Winters (6) RS; Dougherty (2) TCNJ.

Records—Stockton 1-4; TCNJ 3-0.

Cumberland County College men’s soccer: The Dukes won their first game of the season, defeating Com-munity College of Philadel-phia 4-1. Alex Gauntt (Millville) scored on a free kick. Blake Hoffman (Millville), Adam Cham-berlain (Sacred Heart) and Jimmy Banks also scored. Anthony Bollers had four saves.

Cumberland (1-1) travels to Ocean County College on Thursday.
