Richard Stockton College’s Jessica Goncalves was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week on Monday.
Stockton’s Kolya Stephenson (Ocean City) was selected the NJAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. It was the first time that Goncalves, a senior, and Stephenson, a sophomore, received conference weekly awards in their careers.
Goncalves led the Stockton softball team to a 10-0 start on the Ospreys’ Florida trip as she batted .517 with 11 stolen bases and nine runs. She had three hits apiece in wins over North Park (Ill.), St. Mary’s (Ind.) and Franklin & Mar-shall. She had six RBIs in the 10 games and led the team in slugging percentage (.552) and on-base percentage (.548).
Stephenson made a successful debut for Stockton on Wednesday, pitching the Ospreys to a 6-0 win over Messiah College (Pa.) in Fort Pierce, Fla. He scattered eight hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. The win gave Stockton (9-7) a split in a doubleheader with Messiah.
Stephenson was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies with their final pick of the 2011 draft.
He transferred to Stockton after attending Alvernia College in Reading, Pa., last year.
