Ospreys’ Matthews ties wins record

The Richard Stockton College men’s basketball team defeated visiting Penn State-Abington 88-75 putting coach Gerry Matthews in a tie for most New Jersey men’s college basketball coaching wins in Stockton’s first-ever season tip-off tournament Friday.

Matthews, who is in his 27th season with the program, now has 514 victories, matching former Princeton coach Pete Carril for the all-time lead.

Darnell McCargo led the Ospreyswith a career-high 26 points, while sophomore Josh Blamon added 19 points and 11 rebounds, both career highs and his first career double-double.

Kevin Johnson contributed with 11 points.

Stockton gained an edge at the foul line shooting 74.3-percent.

Stockton will face Farming-dale State for the tournament title today at 3 p.m.
