Four Stockton University athletes earned New Jersey Athletic Conference honors Monday.
Maria Ibarra (Egg Harbor Township) was named the Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
Nicole Pallante was selected the Defensive Player of the Week for women’s soccer.
Freshmen Brandon Walters (Cedar Creek) and Lieren Tyira were named Rookie of the Week in men’s and women’s cross country, respectively.
Ibarra went 4-0 in singles and 3-1 in doubles last week.
Pallante, a sophomore, went 2-0-1 in three starts for Stockton with a 0.31 goals-against average. Through Sunday, she led the NJAC in minutes played (1,255) and was tied for second in shutouts (six).
Walters helped Stockton’s men’s team finish sixth, while Tyira helped the Ospreys’ women’s team finish seventh at the Jack St. Clair Memorial Memorial meet in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Both achieved the best finishes of their careers. Walters finished 48th in a field of 162 runners in 31 minutes, 36.8 seconds in the 8-kilometer run. Tyira placed 67th among 160 runners in 28:20 in the 6K run.
